“Two barbers I met in my life influenced me to write script for Savarakkathi” - Director Mysskin.
Director Mysskin has been illustriously identified as a filmmaker of unconventional genres. But to see him write a humorous script is something phenomenal to our senses. But Mysskin clarifies jocularly saying, “Basically I am a humorous person, but it gets eclipsed due to my irony. Having written many scripts that are intense, I wanted to change my route and this is when I wrote this film.”
Just as it is said, posters tell the story and more with trailers, we get ourselves self-affirmed that it’s a character-driven story. One character laden with irrational lies and one confined to domain of extreme anger. What actually could have inspired Mysskin to conceptualize such characters? “I must say Pichai is influenced by couple of barbers I have met in my life. During my childhood, my father used to take me for haircut, where I used to a barber who would keep taking different sides unceasingly as customers keep sharing their opinions. This is because, their maximum time inside the barber shop would be 10-15 minutes and so he would ‘Yes’ to all their views. Then when I came to Chennai, I used to visit a barber shop with my friends. We used to tell him how a particular boy from that Door No. 13 house behaves odd. He would tell us back that one day he would definitely give a slight slit to his ears. But the truth is that actually the boy didn’t exist and there was never a house with Door No. 13.”
He furthermore adds that everyone sticks to lies for no reason. Although, saying lies doesn’t result in devastating conditions, we keep it as a ritualistic practice.
Then on the other end of premise, we would see Manga, who is so much possessed with anger and the entire story is about what happens when a man of lies and anger bounce upon each other.

Both the filmmakers Ram and Mysskin critically acclaimed for their masterpieces are known for dark unconventional themes. But to see them wear greasepaint in humorous shades is a real big surprise that none would have expected. Savarakkathi is getting is ready for release this week and it’s so much exhilarating to hear director Ram utter interesting facts about it.
Sharing his experience working with Mysskin, he says, “Mysskin is such a humorous person that he can entertain you like stand-up comedian for hours. This film would be having the humorous shades imposed upon both of our characters.”
Shedding some lights on their characterizations, Ram says, “Everyone embraces either anger or lies to safeguard themselves in many situations of their lives. What happens when these things goes beyond control in couple of people is narrated within a single day between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.”
On delineating the directorial skills of GR Aditya, “Aditya is a brilliant actor, who can show his actors how to perform well and is a good narrator as well. We used to torture him on the sets asking lots of questions. I am sure; he will be a successful filmmaker who can offer good quality entertainment to universal audiences.”
“Poorna is the main hero of this film. Her role is sketched with some much power, realism and innocuous shade. She plays a pregnant lady with hearing impairment and mother of two kids as well. She has a substantial role that actually influences the two people with contrastive nature in day time,” says Ram who speaking about the characterisation of Poorna.

A debut film for an auteur has its own toilsome responsibilities. Especially, when bringing in couple of power houses to share the screen space, it is definitely like piling up tons of painstaking efforts. Such happens to be the case of filmmaker Aditya, who makes his directorial debut with the film ‘Savarakathi’, feels it more pleasure of wielding megaphone for a film with iconic filmmakers like Ram and Mysskin in lead roles.
Both these filmmakers are known for their own orthodox style of filmmaking, where Ram is into his world of rustic reality based drama trilogy – Kattradhu Tamizh, Thanga Meengal and Taramani. On his part, Mysskin has been striding across the world of dark thrillers and intense dramas. But how about bringing them together to perform role with hilarious shades?
Ask director G.R. Aditya and he says, “Breaking their prototyped paradigms was a challenge indeed. But what surprised me a lot is that both are inclined to humour in their real lives. This made me easier to translate the fictional characterizations into a much entertaining onscreen roles. To be specific, the kind of body language that both Ram sir and Mysskin anna own will be like dancing.”
Getting to speak about the premise of this film, Aditya says, “The film is set against the backdrops of a single day from dawn till dusk. The film starts at a time frame of 6 a.m. and ends by evening 6 p.m. It involves a particular event, which itself will be something different to watch. We will see director Ram’s character running to save himself from something that is really dangerous. The script has its own package of tension, pace blended with action and humour. There will be realms of emotional quotients that will keep the audiences engrossed throughout the show."
