Days after communal riots, Modi to watch Bollywood blockbuster Chhaava

Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal's film Chhaava, based on the heroics of the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be screened in the Parliament later this month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a few other Union Ministers, and many MPs will attend the screening.

This news comes just days after communal riots broke out in Nagpur in Maharashtra. Two days after the riots began, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis mentioned the movie in his speech in the Assembly. "Chhaava brought history before the people and their sentiments were ignited. Also, the public anger against Aurangzeb is coming to the fore. Keeping these things in mind, the law and order system must be maintained and everyone should be patient. If anyone riots, we will take action regardless of caste or religion," he said.

Commentators are of the opinion that a section of the media and a bunch of social media handles have tried to create a caste angle after the BJP CM's statement. The Brahmin-Maratha divide is stark in Maratha politics.

Chhaava, co-starring Akshaye Khanna and Rashmika Mandanna, has overtaken the collections of Animal, Pathaan and Gadar 2 in Indian Nett. collections terms.
